The Steve Reid Foundation supports other charitable organisations that carry out incredible work and show dedication to helping musicians in crisis. The Foundation also provides grants to individuals working in music who are in need of financial support because they are suffering from illness that impedes their ability to work and earn. The Foundation is also collaborating with other organisations to set up a grant as a means to advance education and development for emerging young talent demonstrating music excellence .

Debut production offering from Melbourne based DJ & radio broadcaster Mike Gurrieri, a remix of Australian jazz legend Barney McAll's version of Leon Thomas' 'Precious Energy'.

In late 2019, Barney McAll released an album called 'An Extra Celestial Christmas'. On it includes a track 'Precious Energy' a cover of a Leon Thomas tune featuring the wonderful vocals of Rita Satch.

It is a tune that Barney loved playing during his many years touring as Gary Bartz's pianist so he decided to make a recording of it and make it a homage to two of his heroes, Leon Thomas & Pharaoh Sanders.

From the time of it's release up until the Covid-19 lockdown, Mike was constantly playing it out on both radio & in DJ sets, but wanted to hear it given an extra club-friendly treatment.

After building up the courage to ask Barney for the track stems, he sent them over without hesitation, his only instruction was to "be free". With his blessings, Mike set out to create the remix.

Albert Ayler once said 'music is the healing force of the universe', hopefully this music brings you some positive energy right now at a time when we all really need it.

This music was recorded & produced on the lands of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin nation whose sovereignty was never ceded.

The track was premiered on Tuesday, June 9th on Worldwide FM by Gilles Peterson.
